Relationship Status
I would consider my relationship with social media to be bad if we are considering how much and how long I'm on it. By bad I mean that I'm not on it very often. One of the biggest reasons I'm not on social media very often is because I keep myself busy. I always have an assignment from school that I could be working on, or an activity at church I could go to, or a practice or game that I have to attend. In other words, I like to occupy myself with things that I feel are worth my time. Another reason I'm not on social media very often is because of the restrictions that my parents put on my phone. For example, my parents only let me have apps on my phone that have to do with school along with the apple apps and the call and text apps. Any new apps that I want to get have to be approved by my parents. Also, I have no app store or internet browser on my phone; my parents have found a way to restrict those things as well. Because of these restrictions, I have no way to access social media on my personal device. In order to check my social media account, I have to use my parent's phones. I even have limited access to social media on my T.V., due to more restrictions set up by my parents. On the plug to my T.V. there's a digital lock where a code must be put in to turn the television on. Of course, only my parents know the code which means that once again, they control my access to social media. However, I'm grateful that my parents do this even though sometimes it can feel unfair when I compare my life to the lives of classmates and friends. But, when I think about it, after I check social media or watch T.V. for long amounts of time, I don't feel like I've accomplished anything. I get this feeling in my stomach where I feel like I could have occupied myself with something more useful and wholesome. At the same time, I do think that social media is important when it comes to staying connected with friends that live far away or to know about events happening elsewhere in the world. In conclusion, I think that although I consider my relationship with social media to be bad, I'm happy about where it is right now because I feel like I'm still getting the most out of life while still maintaining a healthy relationship with social media where I feel that I am in control of myself rather than social media controlling my habits and schedule.
